Note

Touring the gardens is something the entire family can enjoy! Ask at the garden entrance for the complimentary brochure that leads children on a seek-and-find game through the gardens titled "Can You Find This?"

The Glen Burnie Gardens are among the most beautiful public gardens in Virginia. Garden spaces range from a formal Grand Allée to a tiny Hidden Garden. The landscape also includes a garden of Asian influences and a Water Garden, where a pond is filled with trout and water cascades down a natural embankment. Other outstanding features include the Pink Pavilion and Fountain Courtyard, the Boxwood Parterre and Knot Garden, and Vegetable, Perennial, Rose, and Herb Gardens. The historic Wood and Glass Family Cemetery is also part of this landscape.

The six acres of gardens surrounding the historic house are open for self-guided tours from March through November.

NEW! Stories in the Soil garden audio tours are now available to make your garden experience come alive!  Delivered on an audio wand which is held to the ear, the Stories in the Soil tour tells the story of the Glen Burnie Gardens.  Nineteen stops are included on the tour and each stop offers three segments of about one minute each.  They include an overview of the garden space, a segment for young children, and a quote from the late Curator of Gardens R. Lee Taylor (1924-2000) or another person from the gardens' history.  The audio wands are available at the Museum Visitor Information Desk for $2 per person (in addition to museum admission).  Plan to experience this new tour when you visit the museum gardens.
